You have your
own accountant, and he's a great fellow. You have dealt with him for
years. So far as you can tell, he has produced accurate accounts for
you. Your Tax Returns have always been filed on time. Your tax bills
have always been reasonable. He has been quick to produce good advice
when requested, and even better, before you request it.
Now, for the first time, HMRC are investigating. Do not think less of your accountant - it is probably
not his fault. You have been chosen at random, or more likely, HMRC have decided that one or more aspects of your Tax Return do
not conform with their rose coloured view of the world. For example,
you made £30,000 profit last year. How can you possibly get
by on only £25,000 this year? Impossible!
Impossible, that is, if you are a Tax Inspector whose annual salary
rises by 2.7% each year, or whatever the RPI happens to be.
Is your accountant the best man to handle the investigation
for you? Most accountants admit that they dislike this type of work,
are not very good at it, and do not have the time or expertise to
negotiate successfully with HMRC.
I can do better. Many accountants entrust their clients' HMRC
investigations to me. For reasons why study the For
Accountants section. Do not be put off by the technicalities.
Read it through - it will only take 5 minutes - and you will see why
accountants themselves use me.
I regard this as the finest advert of all - that accountants entrust
me, another accountant, to deal with their clients' investigations.
Over riding all other comments, if your investigation is by HMRC Civil Investigation of Fraud (CIF), contact me immediately. You are in urgent need of assistance.
